Haridwar to Badrinath altitude Difference
Haridwar altitude: approx. 314 meters (1,030 ft)
Badrinath altitude: approx. 3,133 meters (10,279 ft)
The difference in altitude is around 2800m approx. When you rapidly move from low altitude to high altitude, oxygen levels in the air decrease. Your body needs time to adjust. If you don't get enough time, you may experience Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
Some symptoms of AMS are - nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, fatigue, heavy breathing etc.
Moderate to Severe Symptoms of AMS are breathlessness even while resting, chest tightness, confusion, fast heartbeat, extreme weakness, blue lips/fingers (rare but serious) etc.
Reaching Haridwar to Badrinath in a one go can trigger the AMS. So we provide one night in Haridwar → Joshimath → Badrinath to make your body get used to the altitude change. If you feel any of the symptoms of AMS take the prescribed AMS medicine by a doctor or if you feel like severe symptoms reach the nearby Primary Medical Health Center.
Don’t ignore the symptoms, always take immediate action.

Best time to Visit Badrinath
Generally, the most common best time to travel is May - June and Sept to October. However, based on 8–10 years of experience, I personally believe the best time to visit Badrinath is June-July and the last week of September to October, when the weather is more pleasant, the routes are scenic, and the overall travel experience feels more peaceful and enjoyable.
No doubt May and June are the best months weather-wise. School and college vacations also begin during this time, but this is not the ideal time to get an easy darshan. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to say whether you will get the darshan comfortably or not. In June–July, the rush starts decreasing, and you won’t see the 4–5 km-long queues for darshan.
