Significance of Gaumukh & Gangotri

Gomukh and Gangotri are sacred in Hinduism as the source of the Ganges, representing purity and spiritual cleansing. Gangotri is a vital pilgrimage site in the Char Dham circuit, dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The region's environmental significance lies in the Gangotri Glacier, a major Himalayan glacier affecting downstream water resources. Apart from religious and ecological value, the area's picturesque landscapes attract nature enthusiasts and researchers exploring climate change. According to Hindu mythology, the Ganges originates from Lord Shiva's locks, with Gomukh believed to be the divine spot where the river emerges from the glacier.
